2022 Seminar on Infectious Diseases Control for Belt and Road Countries officially opened.

On July 19, the foreign aid project of the Ministry of Commerce “Seminar on Infectious Diseases Control for Belt and Road Countries” undertaken by Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases was officially opened. The seminar lasted for 14 days and was conducted online. A total of 34 health officials from Sierra Leone, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, Mozambique and Kenya participated in the training.  

Dr. Hassan Kamara, a public health official from the Sierra Leone National Ministry of Health, spoke as a trainee representative. In his speech, he said that he had attended the malaria technology training course organized by the unit in 2017. He was impressed by the technical knowledge he learned and the Chinese culture he appreciated. At the same time, he expressed his warm congratulations on the 20th anniversary of the foreign aid of Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases. He also hoped that China and Sierra Leone would always maintain scientific research cooperation and wish the friendship between China and Sierra Leone would last forever. 

The seminar invited many experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Jiangsu Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Fudan University and Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases. They have both profound theoretical knowledge and rich practical experience. They taught the trainees the diagnosis, treatment and vector control strategies and methods of infectious diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and schistosomiasis, as well as the prevention and treatment experience of emerging infectious diseases such as COVID-19 and monkeypox. At the same time, the seminar also arranged a cloud visit to let the students more intuitively understand the achievements made by China in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, drug research and development and new technologies and methods. 

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the foreign aid projects undertaken by our institute. Since the "Belt and Road" initiative, the institute has always taken promoting international cooperation and mutual benefit as its own responsibility. Based on the national conditions and the actual needs of recipient countries, we have carried out solid training. The seminar has achieved good results and has been widely recognized by the students from developing countries. In the future, the institute will continue to contribute Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions relying on foreign aid projects.
