The "Artemisinin and malaria prevention and elimination seminar " hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by Jiangsu Institute of Schistosomiasis Control on Nov. 7 officially opened.The training course was actively participated by 43 trainees from Sierra Leone, Kenya, Afghanistan and Venezuela.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Edward Bangura, public health official of the Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone, said: "In malaria-endemic African countries, medical resources are limited, and malaria is still a major public health challenge that threatens human life and health."He expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for organizing the training course, and called on the trainees to use this training course as a platform to exchange ideas, promote cooperation and establish a united front in malaria prevention and elimination.
Ms. Fatma Mohamed, public health official of the government of Mombasa, Kenya, said: "Vector-borne diseases are a dynamic issue in public health, which cannot be solved by individual intervention alone.I am glad to have the opportunity to receive professional training organized by the Chinese government, which will help us develop better policies and measures to help us prevent and control malaria, a disease that hinders economic and livelihood development."
The seminar co lasted 14 days and was conducted online. Experts from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Fudan University and Jiangsu Institute of Schistosomiasis Control were invited to give lectures on malaria prevention and control, infectious diseases and public health. The seminar was the last annual foreign aid human resources training program undertaken by the Institute of Schistosomiasis Control, aiming to share China's experience in malaria prevention and control strategies and comprehensive treatment, and the Chinese program of artemisinin-based antimalarial drug treatment, and provide an exchange platform for international cooperation, improve the ability of developing countries to prevent and control malaria and eliminate malaria, and strengthen the reserve of talents and the construction of scientific research capacity.
