On 17th April, the " Training Course on Prevention and Control Technology of Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases for African Countries Successfully Started" hosted by the Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases was officially opened. Meng Gang, Director of Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Department of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, Zheng Lin, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Commerce, and Yang Kun, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases, attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Jie, deputy director of Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases.
The training course is the first foreign aid training programme in 2024, with a total of 31 trainees from 8 African countries, including Egypt, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mauritius, South Sudan, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Tanzania. Professor Aziz, Director of the Egyptian Teaching Hospital and Research Institute, delivered a speech as a representative of the trainees. She hoped that through this training, not only could she learn from China's experience in the prevention and treatment of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, but also strengthen the exchanges and cooperation among countries in the field of public health.
The 10-day training course will invite many public health experts from Fudan University, Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases to teach the participants the prevention and control strategies, technical methods and elimination experience of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, such as AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, schistosomiasis, monkeypox and so on. The practical course on technical competence in infectious diseases offered by the training course will also enable participants to learn more intuitively the technical methods of specimen production, vector identification and susceptibility testing of insect-borne infectious diseases. The training course will also carry out on-site visits, and organise trainees to go to municipal and county-level disease control institutions to gain an in-depth understanding of China's experience in the prevention and control of infectious diseases. Through the foreign aid training programme, the Institute will continue to promote the development of global health, steadily promote the construction of "One Belt, One Road" in high quality, and work together to build a community of human health.
