On April 15, 2021, entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce, the Seminar on Infectious Diseases Control for Belt and Road Countries was officially opened in the Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases. This seminar is the first foreign aid international training course undertaken by the Jiangsu Institute of Parasitic Diseases since the outbreak of COVID-19. It is the first time to adopt the whole online form for international trainees to carry out training and exchanges, which is an active exploration of foreign aid training mode under the new situation of normalized prevention and control of COVID-19.
There are 60 trainees from 8 countries along the Belt and Road such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Kenya, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Azerbaijan and so on. Dr. Leonardo Ortega, Director of the Department of High Disease Burden of the Global Malaria Program of the World Health Organization, Chen Runyun, Vice President of the Training Institute of the Ministry of Commerce, Zhao Yuhong, Deputy Director of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, Yang Haitao, Director of the Institute of Schistosomiasis Control of Jiangsu Province and Cao Jun, Deputy Director of the Institute attended the opening ceremony through the online.
The two-week workshop will be taught by professors from renowned Chinese universities and professionals who have long been working on the frontlines of infectious disease prevention and control. The participants, most of whom are leading figures in disease prevention and management in their respective national health systems, will learn and communicate with Chinese experts via the Internet. In addition to introducing China's disease prevention and control system and prevention and control technologies and experiences of infectious diseases such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and schistosomiasis, the cloud training will also be devoted to the exchange of experiences on the prevention and control of COVID-19.Through the "cloud visit", international participants will learn about the history and current situation of China's prevention and control of tropical diseases, visit the research and development and production of infectious disease detection reagents, and appreciate the characteristics of traditional Chinese festivals and intangible culture.
The workshop will provide participants from the Belt and Road countries with an opportunity to further understand China's experience in infectious disease prevention and control, and provide a platform for participants to share their own country's experience in disease prevention and control, laying a solid foundation for countries to establish long-term cooperation and jointly create a community of human health.
