The 2nd International Training Course on Tropical Disease
Control (ITCTDC) with emphasis on Malaria, Schistosomiasis
and other human parasitic diseases will be held in the Jiangsu
Institute of Parasitic Diseases (JIPD), Wuxi City, Jiangsu
Province, P.R.China from 1 September 2004. This course is
a continuing professional programme and is sponsored by the
Ministry of Commerce (MOC) of China, and presented by the
JIPC.
Course aims
The course is organized in order to promote the development
of work in parasitic disease control among the professionals
from developing countries. It is the purpose of the course
to provide appropriate learning opportunities for the participants
to basic theory and techniques and integrated control experiences
at the basic and applied levels in human parasitic disease
control. The course will endow the participants with systematic
knowledge of relevant and practical techniques used in the
field through theoretic studies, discussion, specialized seminars
and practical training during the course.
The duration of the training course is from 10 October to
10 December 2003.
Venue
The training course is conducted in the Jiangsu Institute
of Parasitic Diseases (JIPC), Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province,
People's Republic of China.
The JIPD, founded in July 1950, is located in Meiyuan, Wuxi
City - a natural scenic zone on Tai Lake, which is widely
regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in China. The
institute is the one of most advanced institutions in the
schistosomiasis and other parasitic diseases control in the
country, composed of 96 basic scientists and physcians including
17 Professors or Chief Doctors with PhD or MSc degrees. The
institute includes 10 departments, such as Department of Schistosomiasis
Control, Department of Malaria Control, Department of Filariasis
& Intestinal Helminthiasis, Department of Environment
& Public Health and Key Laboratory on Molecular Biology
of Parasites. The Jiangsu Training Center for Parasitic Diseases
equipped with conference building, boarding rooms and entertainment
rooms is in a beautiful campus of the institute. The institute
has excellent purpose-built facilities for high-level short
course. Since 1989, on behalf of WHO/TDR and Ministry of Health
of China, International symposiums and training courses were
successfully held in JIPD, respectively. The Institute warmly

C. Field trips
Field trips for disease prevention and control will be arranged
combining social activities throughout the course.
Medium of instruction
The working language is English. The participants are required
to have good English proficiency in reading, listening, speaking
and writing.
Examination and certificate
The performance of the participant shall be judged by a series
of evaluations. A certificate of proficiency will be awarded
on the successful completion of the course.
Requirements for admissions
Course participants are mainly technical and managerial personnel
currently engaged in parasitic disease control from developing
countries. Application by women is strongly encouraged. In
general, the applicants should:
1. Have completed a diploma in medicine, biology or other
related disciplines or qualification;
2. Have worked in parasitic disease control or the relevant
field for at least three years.
3. Be preferably between 22-50 years old;
4. Have a good health, without infectious diseases and with
the capability to keep up the study until the fulfilment of
the training course;
5.Not bring any family members to attend the course;
6. Pledge to observe all the Chinese laws and regulations,
and respect the local customs during the training period in
China;
7. Prepare a review paper on parasitic disease control work
in your country;
Training expenses
1. The expenditure of training, board and lodging, local
transportation for purpose of training, including 30-yuan
per capita as daily pocked money, during the training period
in China for the participants funded by Chinese Government
will be borne by the JIPD.
2. For other expenses including the international travel
expenses and transit/transfer cost and so on between the home
country of participants and Shanghai should be borne by the
participants themselves, their employer, their government,
international funding agencies or NGO (Non-government Organization).
3. The government of the country which sends participants
to the training course should assume the responsibility for
their insurance, cost of medical care, monthly salary etc.
during the training period.
4. The board and lodging for participants will be arranged
by the course organizer during the training period. Participants
will be accommodated in double-bed- room in the JIPD's guesthouse.
All bedrooms are comfortable with wash basin, bathroom facilities
and air conditions.
Application and admission approval
1. The applicant should be nominated by their respective
government. The duly completed application form should bear
the endorsement and recommendation by the department concerned
of the government and be submitted with a valid health certificate
provided by an authorized physician or hospital to the Economic
Consul of the Chinese Embassy to your respective country for
its examination, verification, endorsement and recommendation,
which will be transferred to JIPD in China after official
approval.
2. The Chinese Embassy will issue the admission notice to
the accepted applicant through the department concerned of
applicant's government. The participant with the admission
notice will go through all the other necessary formalities
and come to China for the training course as scheduled.
Insurance
The course organizer does not accept any responsibility for
such risk as loss of life, accidents, illness, loss of property,
etc.
